A career in smart infrastructure
Omar Shaath, who graduated in 2011, discusses his career path from CMU-Q to TASMU, Qatar’s smart infrastructure program through the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
Sustainability is key to smart cities
Mariem Fakih Zguir completed her information systems degree at CMU-Q in 2013, and is now a fourth year PhD student in HBKU’s College of Science and Engineering in the sustainable development division.
The biggest challenge facing smart cities
CMU-Q’s Chadi Aoun is an associate teaching professor of information systems and an expert in smart cities. He shares the two perceptions of smart cities: one focusing on infrastructure and the other focusing on the people who live in the community.

Co-founder, GreenitGreenit is an app created by Tamim Al-Asfar (BA 2019), Mohamed Hamdi (BA 2019) and Julian Sam (CS 2019) that connects Qatar residents to the resources and information they need to make their personal spaces greener. The app uses machine learning to identify plants and to guide gardeners as they care for them.
